Recently, the BMW Group announced sales figures in the first half of 2019. In total, the BMW Group delivered 350,070 new cars branded BMW and MINI in the Chinese market, an 16.8% increase year-on-year. The Group cumulatively delivered more than 1.25 million cars worldwide. Pieter Nota, Global Sales Director for the BMW, commented that the first half of this year saw the strongest performance of BMW in terms of vehicle sales.
Growth was strongest in China, which accounted for more than a quarter of BMW's global sales in the first half of the year.In June, BMW’s China business grew by more than 20%, reaching 61,600 units.The biggest growth driver comes from the sales of “X Series” SUV models, which accounted for more than 43% of BMW's global car sales in the first half of 2019, up from 36% last year.
The new BMW 5 Series and the BMW 3 Series have delivered more than 75,000 units respectively. The new BMW 3 Series which has been launched at the end of June is expected to keep driving business growth later this year.The main growth driver -- The new BMW X3 delivered more than 58,000 units in the first half of the year, whereas the BMW X1 delivered more than 48,000 units and continued to maintain its leading position in its niche market. The new BMW X5 also showed strong market demand, with sales exceeding 11,000 in the first half of the year. BMW has kept diversifying the large luxury car product portfolio this year to meet growing demand of upgraded consumer market in China. The BMW X7 and the new BMW 7 Series received positive feedback from the market after lauching. And the new BMW 8 Series will be launched in the third quarter of this year, as an ending of “ the year of luxury."

In the new energy sector, sales of BMW's new energy vehicles increased by nearly 40% year-on-year in the first half of the year. Among which the two plug-in hybrid models of the BMW X1 and the new BMW 5 Series remained hot selling. Next week, on the 2019 BMW Group China Technology Innovation Day, the Group will share its vision and latest developments in the field of automated driving.
